Newsletter – September 2016

Dear Member

Well we nearly made it a whole season without having to cancel but the weather before the April show was horrendous so with ducks swimming in one of the rings we had to cancel the first show.

We would like to thank all our sponsors who gave sponsorship & prizes at all the shows, without them we would not have had the ring Champions at the shows and  the medals at two of the shows. If there is anyone who would like to sponsor a ring next year please get in touch.

The BHS have increased the membership costs this year by another 50p we have decided that we will be keeping our membership fees the same as last year. Senior membership will be £17 and Junior’s £15. All membership cards are sent from BHS Head Quarters so it is important your address details are correct especially you’re Post Code if it isn’t on they will not be able to send you a copy of the Rider Magazine direct from HQ. Please can you ensure contact phone numbers are on the membership form in case we need to contact you if we have to cancel because of the weather? We have also decided to keep entry fee the same as last season Members£4.50. Non Members £6.00. DressageMembers £6.00. Non Members £8.00.

This season we are looking for sponsors for Championships the cost will be £35 per ring Champion and Reserve Champion Sash. Or if anyone would like to sponsor all 5 rings this will be £200, the Sashes will have your company or your own name on them. We were extremely grateful last year as we had sponsors for all the shows this will meant that at EACH points show we will have Ring Champion and Reserve sashes in the Ridden Showing Ring, the In-Hand ring, the Equitation Ring, the Dressage and the Working Hunter Ring! Also at the August show and the September show we will have a Supreme and Reserve Supreme of the show!! Hopefully we can do the same again this year. The April shows will be Medal shows with medals to all first placed in all rings. We also try to amass prizes to be given at some shows! So if you have anything please let us know.

As a BHS Affiliated Riding Clubs we are able to enter teams in various events throughout the season, these include , Dressage, Show Jumping, Hunter Trials and Combined Training, these are always great fun and our team spirit is fantastic. If you would like to be considered for team events please let us know. You must be able to get to the event, your horse /pony must have a valid passport and be fully vaccinated and most important you must be willing to travel to Lincoln for the National Champs should we be lucky enough to qualify! Team members are also expected to pay towards the entry fee although the club does subsidise this. At each area event we also need to provide 3 stewards, this can involve writing for dressage judges, collecting sheets, jump judging and pole picking. Please let us know if you could help with this, without stewards we can’t send a team.

As a BHS Affiliated Riding Club we work closely with BHS Merseyside and support them at events. You will find out about all the events they are putting on by going on British Horse Society Merseyside website.

As usual we always help before the shows to put out the jumps and dressage arena and on show days to put things away,

Even if you can only spare half an hour we would be most grateful to see you. Is there anyone who would like to steward for one of the judges? That would really be a great help.

I have enclosed a schedule of the season’s classes, Please note there are some changes to the schedule this season. There is a start time for each ring and a not before time for after lunch but the rings usually carry on other than this, please keep an eye on your rings, If you are in one class and are also needed in another class please let the judge know.

Look forward to seeing you all this season. If you have any queries, please contact me or any committee member.

Yours Sincerely.

Member Newsletter February 2014

Dear Member

Welcome to a new season at Laffak Riding Club. As usual we will be holding the shows on the 3rd Sunday in the month. Starting with the first point show on 20st April; the other shows are 18th May, 15th June, 20st July, 17th August and 21st September. The Trophy Show will be on Bank Holiday Monday 25th August.

This year we have decided not to have the jumping classes as there where very few entries over the last two years, we will however be holding Clear Round Jumping, the height of the jumps can be put lower or made higher to suit what you want.

We will be holding a Championship class at the end of the day. It will be a different section each month.

We are very grateful to the people who have Sponsors all the Championships, April will be the Ridden Championship sponsored by The Junction Pub, Rainford. The May Inhand Classes is sponsored by Elizabeth Rimmer from Roby’s Farm in memory of her horse Ellie who changed all their lives. Asmall House Livery has sponsored the Equitation in June, Dressage in July and Working Hunter in August. If there is anyone who would like to Sponsor a class at the Club Shows please get in-touch.

We are affiliated to the British Horse Society Riding Clubs and we have to pay £10.50 for each member, there is also an insurance fee we have to pay and this not included in the £10.50. We will be keeping the membership fees the same as last year; Senior’s £16 and Junior’s £14. The Riding Clubs Headquarters send out the membership cards. I have to send a list of members to them so it is important that you put your Post Code on the membership form or you won’t get your membership card & Rider Magazine. It’s also important that you put a mobile number on the membership form so I can get in touch with you in case we have to cancel the show.

I have enclosed a Membership form & a class entry form so you can get things sorted out before you come to the show; once you have become a member you will be able to mail me text me or send me your entry and just pick up your number at the show, hopefully this will speed things up first thing in the morning. You can also print off all the relevant entry forms & Membership forms by going on to our web site www.laffakrc.org.uk

Our shows will once again be qualifiers for various Championships, the dates of these will be on the website & Laffak Facebook page. This year we will have a 15+ National Supreme Showing Series Qualifier for the Ridden & Inhand Veterans Showing Classes. We also have the 15 + National Supreme Unaffiliated Dressage Series. These are really good classes for all your Veterans.

As an affiliated British Riding Clubs we are able to enter teams in the Area Trials to go to the Championships held in Lincoln. To qualify for these championships our area (Area 3) holds Team qualifying competitions in Show Jumping, Dressage & Horse Trials. The dates are Festival of the Hunter Challenge 12 April at Smallwood, this is a round of show jumping then complete the cross country Course. The Dressage will be on 28 June at Rochdale Riding Club. The Show jumping will be on 12 July at Longton Riding Club and the Horse Trials will be at Kelsall on 22 June.

If you are interested in any of these competitions let me know, you will be expected to make a contribution towards the entry fee for these competitions. We have to provide 3 stewards for every competition we enter so we would need help with providing stewards. All horses/ ponies competing in these team events must have valid record of the flu vaccines the horse has been given. The rules for these vaccines can be found on the British Horse Society website, www.bhs.org.uk you need to go onto the Riding Clubs and then on to flu vacs, where you can calculate if you have the right sequence of vaccinations.

The British Horse Society Merseyside Branch will be organising various events throughout the year. The first of these will be a ride at Stadt Moers Park in Huyton, this is a nice ride and it takes place on 16th February. On the 27th February there is a talk on Strangles & Notifiable Diseases it will be held at the Ex Servicemen’s Club, Rainford WA11 8AJ. There will be more rides & talks on various subjects throughout the year. Keep looking on out Facebook page for an update on what is coming up.

As usual I am pleading for help before the shows and also on show days, is there anyone who would like to steward for one of the judges? We especially need people to help putting out the jumps in the jumping ring on the Saturday. Can I also appeal to members and friends to help at the end of the jumping classes, by giving a hand putting the jumps to the side of the Show Jumping Ring.

I have enclosed a schedule of the season’s classes, Please note that on the schedule there is only a start time for the beginning of the day and a NBF (not before) time for after lunch so please make sure you keep your eyes open to make sure what class is in the ring, as all classes will follow on, so it is up to you to be on time If you are in one class and are also needed in another class please let the judge know.

That’s all for now, I look forward to seeing you all at the first show, If you have any queries don’t hesitate to ring or mail me.

Yours Sincerely.

Linda Armstrong. Secretary
