Member Newsletter February 2014

Dear Member

Welcome to a new season at Laffak Riding Club. As usual we will be holding the shows on the 3rd Sunday in the month. Starting with the first point show on 20st April; the other shows are 18th May, 15th June, 20st July, 17th August and 21st September. The Trophy Show will be on Bank Holiday Monday 25th August.

This year we have decided not to have the jumping classes as there where very few entries over the last two years, we will however be holding Clear Round Jumping, the height of the jumps can be put lower or made higher to suit what you want.

We will be holding a Championship class at the end of the day. It will be a different section each month.

We are very grateful to the people who have Sponsors all the Championships, April will be the Ridden Championship sponsored by The Junction Pub, Rainford. The May Inhand Classes is sponsored by Elizabeth Rimmer from Roby’s Farm in memory of her horse Ellie who changed all their lives. Asmall House Livery has sponsored the Equitation in June, Dressage in July and Working Hunter in August. If there is anyone who would like to Sponsor a class at the Club Shows please get in-touch.

We are affiliated to the British Horse Society Riding Clubs and we have to pay £10.50 for each member, there is also an insurance fee we have to pay and this not included in the £10.50. We will be keeping the membership fees the same as last year; Senior’s £16 and Junior’s £14. The Riding Clubs Headquarters send out the membership cards. I have to send a list of members to them so it is important that you put your Post Code on the membership form or you won’t get your membership card & Rider Magazine. It’s also important that you put a mobile number on the membership form so I can get in touch with you in case we have to cancel the show.

I have enclosed a Membership form & a class entry form so you can get things sorted out before you come to the show; once you have become a member you will be able to mail me text me or send me your entry and just pick up your number at the show, hopefully this will speed things up first thing in the morning. You can also print off all the relevant entry forms & Membership forms by going on to our web site

Our shows will once again be qualifiers for various Championships, the dates of these will be on the website & Laffak Facebook page. This year we will have a 15+ National Supreme Showing Series Qualifier for the Ridden & Inhand Veterans Showing Classes. We also have the 15 + National Supreme Unaffiliated Dressage Series. These are really good classes for all your Veterans.

As an affiliated British Riding Clubs we are able to enter teams in the Area Trials to go to the Championships held in Lincoln. To qualify for these championships our area (Area 3) holds Team qualifying competitions in Show Jumping, Dressage & Horse Trials. The dates are Festival of the Hunter Challenge 12 April at Smallwood, this is a round of show jumping then complete the cross country Course. The Dressage will be on 28 June at Rochdale Riding Club. The Show jumping will be on 12 July at Longton Riding Club and the Horse Trials will be at Kelsall on 22 June.

If you are interested in any of these competitions let me know, you will be expected to make a contribution towards the entry fee for these competitions. We have to provide 3 stewards for every competition we enter so we would need help with providing stewards. All horses/ ponies competing in these team events must have valid record of the flu vaccines the horse has been given. The rules for these vaccines can be found on the British Horse Society website, you need to go onto the Riding Clubs and then on to flu vacs, where you can calculate if you have the right sequence of vaccinations.

The British Horse Society Merseyside Branch will be organising various events throughout the year. The first of these will be a ride at Stadt Moers Park in Huyton, this is a nice ride and it takes place on 16th February. On the 27th February there is a talk on Strangles & Notifiable Diseases it will be held at the Ex Servicemen’s Club, Rainford WA11 8AJ. There will be more rides & talks on various subjects throughout the year. Keep looking on out Facebook page for an update on what is coming up.

As usual I am pleading for help before the shows and also on show days, is there anyone who would like to steward for one of the judges? We especially need people to help putting out the jumps in the jumping ring on the Saturday. Can I also appeal to members and friends to help at the end of the jumping classes, by giving a hand putting the jumps to the side of the Show Jumping Ring.

I have enclosed a schedule of the season’s classes, Please note that on the schedule there is only a start time for the beginning of the day and a NBF (not before) time for after lunch so please make sure you keep your eyes open to make sure what class is in the ring, as all classes will follow on, so it is up to you to be on time If you are in one class and are also needed in another class please let the judge know.

That’s all for now, I look forward to seeing you all at the first show, If you have any queries don’t hesitate to ring or mail me.

Yours Sincerely.

Linda Armstrong. Secretary

Dear Member

Well we nearly made a whole season without having to cancel, but I suppose we were pushing it to expect to get all the show on this year, especially after the disastrous weather we had over the last two years.

The British Horse Society Merseyside Branch is holding a number of escorted rides around the old Cronton Colliery & Rainford Linear Park and Loop route, its £12 in advance or £15 on the day, the Rainford ride is limited to 30 people so if you want to go you need to book ASAP. For more information on the local events e-mail: or Tel: Margaret Fishwick 07587028485 or Keith Hacket on 07969497048. Everybody should make an effort to use these facilities as much as possible or they could be lost to the horsey fraternity for ever.

You will find enclosed a list of this year’s point’s winners. The trophies will be given out at the Presentation Dance, which will be held on Saturday 16th November at North End Recreation Club, Bushy Lane, Rainford Junction, WA11 7LN.

The Presentation will start at 8.00p.m. If you can’t attend the dance please make sure a representative picks up your trophy, as they will not be kept for you.

Tickets are £6.00 each, this will include a Disco & Hot Pot made by Karl’s Catering; you can get the tickets by either by filling in and returning the form enclosed with this letter, or by going on the website, the form will be on there, failing all that you can contact the following people, Linda Armstrong (Liverpool) 0151 486 5128, Mo Chamberlain (Rainford) 0174488 2255.

It would be really helpful if you could let me know how many tickets you require before the evening so I can let Karl know how much food we will need.

If you have any queries regarding the points or if I have spelt a name wrong, please ring me as soon as possible and I will try to sort them out.

Will all 2012 Points Trophy winners please make sure they have them engraved as soon as possible as I will be contacting them soon to arrange their return, you can return them to Mo in Rainford Tel: 01744882255 or Linda in Speke 01514865128.

Directions to the Club. North End Recreation Club, Bushy Lane, Rainford Junction, WA11 7LN From the East Lancs Road (A580). Turn onto the Rainford by Pass (A570) towards Southport/Ormskirk. Keep on this road over the first roundabout, and then at the next roundabout take the 3rd exit onto Bushy Lane (there is a Indian Restaurant on the corner called Mr Elephant), **There is a right hand bend followed by a sharp left hand bend, at this bend you need to turn right into a narrow road alongside a row of Terrace Cottages, you are all most turning back on your self; follow this road a little way and you will come to the club. From the M58. Come off at Junction 3; turn left if you are coming from Wigan direction or right from Liverpool direction onto the A570 Rainford by Pass. Keep on until you come to the roundabout, take the 1st left here onto Bushy Lane then follow the above instructions.**

That’s all for now; many thanks to you all for your support during the season.

I look forward to seeing you all at the dance
